i've been looking for torrents of my favorite shows but i couldnt find any new episodes yet, so i just browsed the news. i learned that the elections in the states is only months away from now.. there are news bout obama and hillary clinton.. so i heard they are competing for the spot of who's going to run for the democratic slot? am i correct??? obama, if he gets lucky and wins will be the first black american president.. while hillary will be the first woman president ever. so tough choice, right? and that is only for the democratic slot. i wasnt really familiar with the two party systems in the US.. all i know is that these two are really rivals.. and i think that some people in the states get passionate bout it.. just like in basketball or baseball games.. some are loyal to one party.. some to the other.. the loyalty even runs in families. we usually have a lot of political parties here in the philippines... not to mention a lot of independent candidates during election.. i think we should improve that screening process for anyone who plans to run for president.

anyway so i researched a little bout these 2 parties.although im not a voter in the states i just wanted to know. that's just me..always curious..actually it irks me.. LOL

so ill start with the flags.. republican-elephant; democrat-donkey
why such animals? i dunno.. so the main difference is their platform...

according to what ive heard they said the the republicans usually are pro-rich, pro-business, promilitary and conservative while the democrat leans toward the common people or the middle class, liberal, tolerates other culture, accepts alternative lifestyles, wants bigger govt (so citizens depends more), bigger budget and less concern on morality. so proabortion etc..

Democrat vs Republican?

A Balanced Budget vs. Lower Taxes -
balanced Federal budget more important, higher taxes(democrat)
lower taxes, people receive more of what they earn, good business(republican)

---
Tolerance vs. Morality
tolerance of other lifestyles(d)
a moral code of conduct in society(r)

Individual Security vs. A Gun Free Society
country without guns(d)
a secure home, gun ownership(r)

Prison vs. Capital Punishment
imprisonment for life(d)
capital punishment(r)

Socialism vs. Capitalism
society with a big social safety net, govt gets more;social security(d)
society where people get to keep more of what they make for themselves;private accounts(r)

Statesmanship vs. Unilateralism
US should always work in concert with other countries (d)
"going it alone" (r)

Public vs. Private Education
federal government should only fund public schools (d)
also private education (r)

Judicial Freedom
judges should be free to "interpret" the laws of our country (d)
otherwise (r)

Scientific Advances
Do you think science should be allowed to advance unchecked by our moral code? (d)
otherwise (R)

Enviroment vs. Business
environment should be protected even if its harmful to business (d)
business first (r)

if ever ill vote there in the US i think ill choose republican.. yikes.. im conservative... i'm anti abortion.. that's because of Dra. Aguirre.. :p i even took the test..

Your Vote Score: 64% Republican, 36% Democrat

While you don't always agree with the Republican party, it's a pretty good match for you.
Do be sure to research each candidate. A conservative Democrat or independent candidate might fit you better at times.

cam maybe you should think a little bit more about the whole republican thing...abortion is only one issue out of many...imagine for instance if gore won in '00 and there was no war in iraq...true saddam would be in power but all the thousands (tens of thousands? hundreds of thousands?) of iraqi civilians who were killed or otherwise maimed in the war would be alive today...the billions that were spent in the war would otherwise have been spent on healthcare, education, and other social programs...instead all those billions payed for stuff that was bought from companies that make things like bullet proof vests to bullets who no doubt contributed a ton of money to republican political campaigns...but just to give you an example of the difference b/w the conservative (republican) and liberal (democratic) approach. more than a hundred years ago when the phils was a colony of the US after the US Spain war, a republican was appointed governor of the philippines (i think it was taft)...during his tenure the books used by little filipino kids in schools were taken verbatim from american school books...with pictures of john and jane playing in the snow...how is a filipino kid supposed to know what snow is? when his term expired a democratic governor took over...the school books were promptly changed to juan and juanita playing beside a mango tree...i think the reason why many people are attracted to the liberal point of view is because it isn't an orthodoxy in the same way republicanism is...basically you live your own life and people don't try to dictate what you should or shouldn't believe or what you should or shouldn't be doing...for the most part anyway...it never feels nice when someone tries to force something down, your throat, di ba? my 2 centavos :-)

to dak:haha lalang i was just curious..

to mike:a very juicy comment there., :D didnt know that you're interested that much in politics.. i tend to get passionate bout political matters before when i was younger..but when i got older, i got tired of it. well i cannot say that im really pro-republican.. of course i also do not like war. i even feel that the states got carried away back there.. starting the war, really the states gained a bully image..well maybe even earlier than that. they say that the main purpose of the war isnt really because of saddam but bec of the oil.. hm.. i still think that the best way is to know the candidate very well..be smart and choose wisely. there is no perfect party. both of them got nice points and both of them also have goals and beliefs that i dislike.. just like what the test result said, maybe ill be better off with a conservative democrat.. so in the end, it will always depend on the candidate.

i think many of the things you said make a lot of sense...conservative democrat? the closest you'll probably get is hillary pretending to be conservative...i wouldn't put that past her...or maybe a liberal (kinda) republican like mccain...pero la naman tayong boto eh! hehehe :-)

there is no such thing as therapeutic abortion.. remember that.. and no to contraceptives! because some of them also has an abortifacient effect..they prevent implantation... pregnancy starts from conception...its when life starts.. condoms don't guarantee a 100% protection to stds... hiv, hpv and the like can still be transmitted.. we should be responsible for our own bodies and actions.. haha naks... dra aguirre...:p
